The 2024/2025 season of the Fondazione Teatro dell’Opera di Roma has been presented.
There are 11 new productions, including 9 opera and 2 dance, for a total of 12 opera titles, 7 ballets and 6 concerts. Three opera titles, one dance title, one concert, and a total of 17 more evenings than last year. The season will be followed, in the year of the Jubilee, by the summer festival, whose programming is entirely entrusted to Damiano Michieletto: a new challenge and an unprecedented form of collaboration for the director and the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, which among the titles on offer will see a new production of Bernstein’s West Side Story directed by Mariotti with Michieletto himself directing.
Scheduled to debut are international directors Peter Sellars, Romeo Castellucci and Calixto Bieito, as well as the return to Rome of Richard Jones, Deborah Warner, Valentina Carrasco and Pierre Audi. The tribute to celebrated choreographers such as John Cranko, Pierre Lacotte and Roland Petit. The revival of creative masterpieces by Renato Guttuso and Emanuele Luzzati.
Music director Michele Mariotti’s outstanding efforts find substance in four different opera productions and two concerts. Such batons as those of James Conlon, Henrik Nánási, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Roberto Abbado, and Omer Meir Wellber. Great opera voices such as Anna Netrebko, Eleonora Buratto, Angela Meade, Luca Salsi, Corinne Winters, Yusif Eyvazov, Gregory Kunde, Gaëlle Arquez, Erwin Schrott and Ian Bostridge, joined by new stars such as Anastasia Bartoli, Mariangela Sicilia, Carlo Vistoli, Mattia Olivieri, Maria Kataeva and Joshua Guerrero. Dancers such as Nicoletta Manni, Friedemann Vogel, Madison Young, Julian MacKay, Javier Rojas, Olga Smirnova, Iana Salenko and Igor’ Cvirko. Great repertoire titles such as Simon Boccanegra, Carmen, Tosca, L’italiana in Algeri and Lucrezia Borgia. The first time in Rome of a Baroque masterpiece such as Händel’s Alcina.
